The original version of this work, from around 1856, is for organ (S. 260i; LW E3; R. 381), which Liszt arranged for solo piano (S. 529i; LW A250). In 1870, Liszt revised both the organ version (S. 260ii; LW E3; R. 381) and the piano version (S. 529ii; LW A250; R. 22).
